Ke Ala Hou, A New Path Forward – September 2026 Governor’s Message

Efforts across the state are in motion as Hawai‘i recovers from Tropical Cyclone Lala while simultaneously preparing for future weather impacts. Our hearts are with those who were where the storm hit hardest. We continue to provide necessary resources and support for our most impacted communities.

State departments have been hard at work clearing debris, restoring vital services, supporting search and rescue, distributing food, providing mental health resources, collaborating with local partners, offering temporary housing and ensuring SNAP benefits reach those who need it most.

We’ve also made important strides in resilience. The Hawaiʻi State Energy Office and partners secured critical funding to mitigate future risks to the electrical grid from natural hazards and disasters, to support faster operational recovery and to power essential services even with energy grid failure.

Furthermore, the Hawaiʻi Department of Accounting and General Services installed AEDs in state facilities as a precautionary measure and trained staff on the proper use in case anyone experiences cardiac failure. This improves the ability to save lives and enhance public safety in many state facilities.

With this heightened El Niño season expected to bring unpredictable weather, we’re taking proactive measures to keep Hawai‘i safe and help our communities be ready for anything.
